Shaama Sandooyea

Shaama is a marine biologist and climate activist from Mauritius. She has collaborated with numerous environmental organizations and co-founded Fridays for Future Mauritius. Her work with Greenpeace included taking part in a scientific expedition at the Saya de Malha bank and the worlds first underwater climate strike in the Indian Ocean. Shaama has also worked with l'Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) on issues related to climate, biodiversity, and ocean conservation. In 2022, she joined the UN High Seas Treaty negotiations in New York as an observer, and in July 2023, she represented the Clean Shipping Coalition at the MEPC80 session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London. Having moved to Nis three years ago, Shaama has become actively engaged in the local community and strongly believes that grassroots action is the key to creating meaningful, positive change in society.
